“…the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting…”

Oliver croppedToday, Thanksgiving Day, should not end before we think about the writers who have  changed us. For me, the one who floats to the top this year is Mary Oliver. It’s hard not to say “wow” after reading a poem like “Wild Geese” .  You might expect it to be about the passing of the seasons.  Instead, she writes, “Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting — over and over announcing your place in the family of things.” May you have a delightful thanksgiving!

  1. This makes me want to walk out to the field, and wonder, “am I really listening?”! Nice.
